Padraig joins the Wyndham

Ireland’s three-time major winner Padraig Harrington is clearly gunning to play in this year’s FedEx Cup play-off series.
He made that clear on Friday when he submitted a last-minute entry for next week’s US PGA tour stop, the Wyndham Champion, the last event available for players seeking additional points to qualify for the FedEx Cup series which begins with The Barclays in New Jersey in the following week.
Harrington, without a win since his golden run in 2007 and 2008 when he picked up back-to-back Open Championships and the 2008 PGA title and battling to break out of a swing slump, was sitting in 130th place on the FedEx Cup standings knowing he would need to get down to 125th and lower to qualify for the four-event FedEx play-off when he teed off in the 92nd PGA Championship on Thursday.
The Irishman made the cut, but sitting in 40th place, some 8 shots off the pace after the first two rounds, is no guarantee that he’ll make it into the 125 FedEx Cup qualifying bubble and it is for this reason he has set himself to play in the Wyndham which begins on Thursday at the Sedgefield Country Club.in Greenboro, North Carolina.
