Olesen among Open qualifiers

Fredrik Jacobson, Thorbjorn Olesen, Harrison Frazar and Charles Howell are the lastest qualifiers for this month’s Open.
Fredrik Jacobson, Thorbjorn Olesen, Harrison Frazar and Charles Howell all earned their tickets to the Open Championship on Sunday.
Jacobson, a US Tour based Swede and American journeyman Frazar won their places from a “current form” mini-money list on the PGA Tour, while Olesen, a 22-year-old Dane and Howell, also an American, were the leading non-exempt finishers at the French Open and AT&T National respectively.
Olesen tied for second with England’s Mark Foster, but booked his place at Sandwich by virtue of being the highest of theb two on the world rankings list, while Howell tied for third with Adam Scott and Jeff Overton, both of whom had already secured their places at The Open.
Because there are vacancies caused by exempt players winning some of this season’s bigger events – Rory McIlroy at the US Open, Charl Schwartzel at The Masters, KJ Choi at the Players Championship and Luke Donald at the BMW PGA Championship – and some former Open winners like Nick Faldo and Greg Norman have electing not to play, about five more Open spots have become available and are to be allocated after the new World Rankings lists are published on Monday.
