Captain Greg Norman is ready to help the Internationals end their President Cup victory drought in Australia come November.

The United States been unquestionably dominant in the competition, winning all but one of the biennial matchups, the 1998 edition, perhaps not cooincidentally the last time the event was held in Australia.

Not only does the Presidents Cup return to Australia this November, it also returns to Royal Melbourne, the same course that hosted it in 1998, and Normal is confident that the local contingent can help tip the scales in the Internationals’ favour.

He’s put his money where his mouth is in that regard, picking two Aussies, Robert Allenby and former Australian Open winner Aaron Baddeley, as his wildcard picks, both more than comfortable with playing at Royal Melbourne, while USA captain Fred Couples has gone with Tiger Woods and recent FedEx Cup winner Bill Haas.

“They are extremely excited,” Norman said of the International team. “They want to get down there. They know they have lost the Presidents Cup every year except one, and they want to try to win The Presidents Cup, no question, and the Aussies want to do it in their backyard.

“I think the competition is going to be closer and tougher than what we experienced in ’98.”

The Presidents Cup takes place at Royal Melbourne from November 17-20.
