New shoes for Tiger

Tiger Woods will this weekend at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational be wearing prototype Nike ‘Free’ golf shoes which, in some respects, are his brainchild.
Ahead of his first tournament since walking away from The Players championship on May 12 after just nine holes with knee and Achilles heel injuries, Woods had been working out in the gym during his rehabilitation with a pair of Nike shoes he liked so much, he asked if their Nike Free technology couldn’t be used in golf shoes.
Tobie Hatfield, one of the directors of Nike’s Innovation Kitchen who helped developed the original Nike Free shoes, has since come up with the prototype Nike Free golf shoe that allows for greater freedom of movement for the front of the foot, while increasing general stability.
The golf shoe also borrows technical innovations from the Nike Basketball Hyperfuse 2011 as well as a Free-inspired outsole taken from a Special Field Boot designed for the military.
The end result is a shoe that is lightweight and flexible.
Woods has them in two colors, black and white, and will wear both at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, this week.
