The Scot tore his left calf muscle earlier in the month and despite having taken time off to recuperate, he has not yet returned to full fitness.
The 49-year-old completed nine holes of his first round at Royal Park before being forced to throw in the towel.
“I just tried to play too soon and I just couldn’t swing the club,” he said.
I’m in a lot of pain. I tried, but now what it needs is rest.”
