You can bet your bottom dollar on it. Tiger Woods will still be the World No 1 golfer after Sunday’s final round of The Barclays.

Phil Mickelson, who mathematically had 10 different ways of overtaking Woods at the top of the World Rankings when he teed off at the Richwood Country Club on Thursday, has missed the cut after posting a disappointing second round 74 and will be going home early, once more losing out on what to him is becoming a jinxed mission.

This is the ninth event in a row in which Mickelson has been set to capture the elusive No 1 spot for the first time in his career – and if Woods keeps playing the way he is here so far (he had claimed back his first round lead by the time he reached the turn at 8-under today) Mickelson mighty not get too many more cracks at the long-time World No 1.
