McIlroy wants more tilts at Tiger

Rory McIlroy wants to hold onto his World No 1 crown “a little longer”, but he also wants to renew his battle with Tiger Woods.
Rory McIlroy wants to hold onto his World No 1 crown “a little longer”, but he also wants to renew his battle with Tiger Woods.
At Sunday’s Honda Classic, Woods stormed back in the final round with a spectacular 62, but McIlroy was nevertheless able to keep his nerve like a seasoned pro and hold off the charge, eventually winning by two shots after closing with a 69 – and with it, taking over Luke Donald’s World No 1 ranking.
Now, having handled the pressure and come through the experience as a winner, McIlroy is mustard keen to get to grips with Woods again – and if possible to create an epic rivalry that will be good for the game of golf.
“I think it is great for golf. It creates a lot of interest and I’d love to be able to go down the stretch with him (Woods) a lot more,” McIlroy was reported as saying at the weekend.
“It was always a dream of mine to become the world number one, the best player in the world, whatever you want to call it.
“But I didn’t know that I would be able to get here this quickly. Hopefully I can hold onto it for a little longer.”
