McDowell opts out of French Open

Graeme McDowell is to take an extra week off in the wake of his US Open victory and will miss next week’s French Open.

Graeme McDowell has decided to take an extra week to digest all the clamour and the shouting that has followed his US Open victory and will miss next week’s French Open.
The Northern Irishman’s return to European Tour action will now come in the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in two weeks’ time.
McDowell became the first European to lift the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970 when he beat Frenchman Gregory Havret by a stroke at Pebble Beach on Sunday night.
