Rising star Tom Lewis would love the opportunity to partner Luke Donald or Tiger Woods at next month’s Abu Dhabi Championship.
The European Tour event is set to to feature a high-class field – aside from World No 1 Donald and 14-time major winner Woods, the likes of Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, Jason Day, Charl Schwartzel, Darren Clarke and KJ Choi will also be in attendance.
“The field is amazing and I am crossing my fingers I get paired with one of the top names like Luke Donald or Tiger Woods at some point during the week,” Lewis said according to Reuters.
Lewis, recently named the European Tour Rookie of the Year thanks to his silver-medal winning performance at this year’s Open Championship and his audacious victory at the Portugal Masters in only his third start as a professional, is getting ready for his first full year on tour and is eagerly anticipating the prospect of playing alongside the world’s best.
Another highly rated youngster, Italian Matteo Manassero, will also be in Abu Dhubi in late January and is looking to kickstart his bid for Ryder Cup qualification with a solid start to the new season.
“The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is one of the biggest tournaments we play in all year outside of the majors and the World Golf Championships so I am hoping to make a good start to the year to help my quest for Ryder Cup qualification,” he said.
