The play-offs continue; last week there were four, this week two – on the two biggest tours in men’s golf.
In the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, Dane Anders Hanson beat Britain’s Justin Rose with a magnificent curving putt at the first extra hole while not much later on Sunday, on the other side of the Atlantic, Rory Sabbatini triumphed at the Crowne Plaza Invitational by winning the other play-off against World No 3 Jim Furyk and veteran Masters winner Bernhard Langer,
In the Seniors PGA Championship, blast from the past Dennis Watson avoided a play-off by cruising home to win by two shots from Argentina’s overnight leader Eduardo Romero.
Watson, who won his three US PGA Tour titles 23 year’s ago and is the first non-American to claim the title since Gary Player in 1990, has been hamstrung by a series of injuries and was justifiably delighted with his unexpected victory over a field that included a host of greats of the past.
For hanging in and never despairing or quitting during a wide-ranging series of operations he deserves all the applause we can give him.
Well done Dennis!
Cheers
