Lefty’s woes continue

Phil Mickelson’s Ryder Cup struggles continued in the third session of fourballs – despite a change of partner.
Phil Mickelson’s Ryder Cup struggles continued in the third session of fourballs despite a change of partner.
The world number two had lost two matches alongside Dustin Johnson and was sent out alongside 21-year-old rookie Rickie Fowler late on Saturday afternoon.
But his fortunes do not look like improving, as the American pair – sent out as the anchor in the sixth match by skipper Corey Pavin – slipped to a two-hole deficit against Ian Poulter and Martin Kaymer.
They have time to recover with the bottom match having gone through just four holes, but neither American is playing well.
The Europeans won the first with a par and a birdie four at the par five second doubled their lead. The match will be completed on Sunday morning.
