Laird wins ticket to St Andrews

Scot Martin Laird has shot a 7-under-par 63 at a 36-hole qualifier in Texas to earn his place in the Open Championships

Scotland’s Martin Laird shot a sizzling, seven-under-par, second-round 63 at a 36-hole qualifier in Texas on Monday to secure his place in this year’s Open Championships in July.
Laird had been up against it after a 69 in his first 18 holes but pulled it back in style to finish fourth at the end of the day, eight-under overall.
At 11-under, Tim Petrovic’s rounds of 64 and 65 saw him finish first ahead of fellow Americans Bo Van Pelt and DA Points.
Englishman Brian Davis missed out on one of the eight places, however, despite following his initial 73 with a 68 to finish one over in a share of 42nd.
Others who failed to qualify included Davis Love, Andres Romero and Boo Weekley.
The eight qualifiers are:Americans Tim Petrovic, Bo Van Pelt, DA Points, Glen Day, Cameron Percy, George McNeill and Tom Pernice and Scot Martin Laird.
