Kuosa takes charge at Swiss Open

Jenni Kuosa shot a three-under-par 70 to take a two-shot lead at the halfway mark of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open.
Finland’s Jenni Kuosa shot a three-under-par 70 on a wet day in Ticino to take a two-shot lead at the halfway mark of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open.
The 31-year-old, who secured her Ladies European Tour card with a fifth place finish at qualifying school in January, started the day in a tie for second, two shots off the lead, after shooting an opening 67 at the Gerre Losone club.
But with overnight leader Stacy Lee Bregman slipping back after carding a four-over 77 in rainy conditions, Kousa fired four birdies against a lone bogey to move to the top of the leaderboard on nine under.
“My goal today was to be patient in the rain and that worked pretty well. I had a few more chances that I didn’t make,” said Kousa, who has yet to win on the LET.
The Finn has a two-stroke lead over England’s Melissa Reid (68) and Austrian Nicole Gergely (69) with Australia’s Karen Lunn (67) and Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord (71) a further shot back on six under.
Reid, who is seeking her first victory after three runner-up finishes last season and third place at the Women’s Australian Open in January, paid credit to caddie Paul Vincent Fernie after a round that featured seven birdies and two bogeys.
“I’d like to say that Paul did a really good job today,” said the 21-year-old.
“A day like today completely emphasises how important a caddie is. He helped me and did a fantastic job so a massive thank-you to him.”
The British trio of Georgina Simpson (72), Lisa Hall (73) and Felicity Johnson (71) are tied for sixth place with Norway’s Lill Kristin Saether (72) and Sweden’s Emma Zackrisson (74) on five under.
All the second round scores & totals in the Ladies European Tour Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open, Golf Gerre Losone, Ticino, Switzerland.
