Europe gained an early point on the final day of the Solheim Cup after Cristie Kerr withdrew due to injury.

The Europeans took a 9-8 lead early on Sunday morning at Castle Killeen in Ireland after Kerr was unable to start her singles match against Karen Stupples due to an injury to her right arm.

Kerr, the 2010 LPGA champion, suffers from tendinitis and was in tears on the driving range as she tried in vain to warm up prior to the scheduled start of the match.

Her withdrawal is a big loss for the Americans. She has an excellent win ratio in Solheim Cup matches, winning 11, drawing five and losing only two.

All eleven of the remaining matches are underway and there is currently little seperating the two sides. Europe lead in five, the USA lead in five, and one match is all square.
