The 20-year-old Japanse superstar fired a three-under-par 67 at the Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club to move to five under overall and into joint first place alongside Toru Taniguchi, who shot a 69 after posting a 66 that had given him a share of the first round with Hiroyuki Fujita and Lee Dong-hwan on Thursday.
Fujita, in tjhe meantime, carded a level-par 70 on Friday to drop into a share of third with JB Park, who made the biggest gains in the second round with a 65.
Lee’s one-over 71 dropped him two shots behind the leaders, alongside Yusaku Miyazato (70) and Tetsuji Hiratsuka (70).
