A fan was arrested after throwing a hot dog at Tiger Woods in a bizarre incident during the final round of the Frys.com Open.
Woods was preparing to putt on the seventh green at CordeValle – his 16th hole of the day – when a spectator burst out of the crowd and tossed a hot dog in the former world No.1’s direction.
The American backed away from his putt and the man, who appeared to have been drinking, surrendered to security personnel and police before being arrested.
“When I looked up, the hot dog was already in the air,” said Woods, who eventually missed his putt. “He was pretty far away from me.
“The fun was kind of disintegrating there. He knew what he was doing because he laid on the ground, put his hands behind his back and turned his head away from security. ”
Woods, playing in his first tournament since missing the cut at the PGA Championship in August, went on to card his third successive three-under round of 68 for joint 30 place and 10 shots adrift of eventual winner Bryce Molder
He was four under after five birdies on the back nine, but failed to maintain the momentum as he recorded bogeys at the second and fifth before signing off with a birdie on the ninth.
“I got better every day, but unfortunately, a couple times I didn’t get the momentum going when I had a couple of chances to make putts. I should have just really got it rolling,” he said.
