Hjorth, Greciet out in front

Swede Maria Hjorth and France’s Julie Greciet shared a one-stroke first round lead at the AIB Ladies Irish Open.
Swede Maria Hjorth and France’s Julie Greciet shared a one-stroke first round lead at the AIB Ladies Irish Open – but had several Britons in hot pursuit.
The leaders put together impressive rounds to finish a rain-affected day with five-under-par 67s at Portmarnock Links.
But just a shot further back was a six-strong chasing pack featuring England’s Melissa Reid, Scotswoman Vikki Laing and Becky Brewerton of Wales.
Another Welsh player, Lydia Hall, was joint ninth two off the lead on three under alongside Ireland’s Martina Gillen.
Greciet produced eight birdies but bogeyed the seventh, 13th and 14th holes while Hjorth also birdied eight and bogeyed three.
Englishwoman Samantha Head was in the next group back, on two-under, alongside compatriots Kiran Matharu, amateur Rachel Jennings, Florentyna Parker and Ireland’s Tara Delaney.
Two-time winner Laura Davies was way off the pace at three-over after a round of 75 incorporating two bogeys, a double bogey and two birdies.
All the first round scores in the Ladies European Tour AIB Ladies Irish Open, Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links, Portmarnock, Dublin, Ireland.
