Hansen and Lara lead Donald chase

Anders Hansen, twice a winner here, and Jose Manuel Lara are leading the Luke Donald chase at Wentworth.
Anders Hansen, twice a winner here, and Jose Manuel Lara are leading the Luke Donald chase in Thursday’s second round of the BMW PGA Championship.
With Donald among the later starters and still in the clubhouse at seven under par following a magnificent opening 64, Hansen was six adrift after he bogeyed the opening hole of his second round.
But he then picked up four birdies over the next six holes before another dropped shot stopped his charge at the 391 yard eighth.
The vast majority of the field teed off wearing navy blue in memory of Seve Ballesteros – it is 20 years to the day that the maestro beat Colin Montgomerie in a play-off – with Lara flying the Spanish flag proudly.
A birdie at the long fourth took the Spaniard to four under as well, while England’s Ian Poulter was only one shot further back after negating two birdies with two bogeys for a front nine 35..
And this only a week after he denied Donald the World Number One sport in Spain by beating the hot favourite in the final of the Volvo World Match Play Championship.
Some of the other big names in the meantime were fighting to avoid the cut and a course that can never be taken for granted
They included the World Number Three, Martin Kaymer who was on the cut mark at 3-over as he started for home.
Justin Rose and Ernie Els were only one better after both had turned in 33.
