Garcia’s Ryder Cup hopes look bleak

Sergio Garcia’s last chance of making Europe’s 2010 Ryder Cup team appears doomed to failure.
Sergio Garcia’s last chance of making Europe’s 2010 Ryder Cup team appeared to be doomed to failure after a first-round 78 at the USPGA on Thursday – and his frustration with his situation seemed to boil over at one point.
Down from second in the world early last year to his current 50th spot, Garcia vented his fury on one of Whistling Straits’ many bunkers.
The Spanish star, who has spoken of taking a two-month break from the sport after this week and would alter his plans only if he rediscovered form, attacked the sand with his club after failing to get out as he hoped.
Not content with that, he gave the offending trap several more angry hacks before moving on to his ugly six-over 78 – and an almost certain early exit from an event in which half the field was under par for the day.
