Francella wins marathon play-off

Meaghan Francella has beaten Mariajo Uribe in a six-hole play-off to win the HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup.

American Meaghan Francella beat Mariajo Uribe in a six-hole, sudden death play-off to win the HSBC LPGA Brasil Cup at Itanhanga Golf Club on Sunday.
Francella rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the sixth play-off hole – the par-three 17th – to win the USD105,000 check on offer to the winner in this limited-field, ‘exhibition’ event.
The play-off was required after the pair were level at six-under-par after 36 holes, while Candie Kung’s five-under saw her push the duo close heading towards the climax.
Francella and Uribe, of Colombia, matched each other all the way in the play-off before the former picked up a shot on the sixth to take the win.
“I just felt really confident in my game today,” said the victor.
“I had no expectations coming over here. Obviously I wanted to win, but I was just excited to be over here.”
