Elson has the edge

England’s Jamie Elson holds a one-stroke lead going into the final round of the Saint-Omer Open.
England’s Jamie Elson holds a one-stroke lead going into the final round of the Saint-Omer Open.
The 29-year-old shot a third round 68 to reach seven under par at Aa Saint Omer Golf Club and he leads by one from Robert Dinwiddie and Raphael Jacquelin.
Elson began the day with a bogey, but hit straight back at the par three second and consecutive birdies at the sixth and seventh took him to the turn in 34.
He began the back nine with three birdies in four holes, but late on dropped shots at the 15th and 16th gave his rivals a chance to close the gap.
Overnight leader Dinwiddie would secure his return to the European Tour with victory on Sunday but he could not replicate his stunning second-round 65.
The 27-year-old produced a mixed third round featuring four birdies with four bogeys for a level-par 71.
Level with him on 207 for the tournament is Jacquelin, who had a storming front nine 32 which included a second eagle of the week at the par five seventh.
Dane Mark F Haastrup looks set to follow up last week’s third place in Estoril with another good finish – he currently lies joint fourth with Austrian Martin Wiegele on four under.
