Els could miss Dubai extravaganza

Ernie Els looks likely to withdraw from the Race to Dubai finale as he doesn’t particularly care for the course.

The ‘Big Easy’ confirmed this week that he “in all likelihood” he won’t be travelling to Dubai and will also not be playing in the South African Open.

He will, however, take part in the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

“I just don’t know about Dubai and I don’t know if I want to go there. It’s just that I am not a fan of the golf course out there,” Els told Golf Digest

“I love Dubai and I’ve won the Desert Classic three times, but the golf course for the Dubai World Championship just doesn’t suit my game.

“So at this stage I’m not going to play, but that’s not signed in stone as I will review what I’m going to do after the Shanghai (WGC-HSBC Champions) event.”

Els is currently fourth on the European Tour money list, but is unlikely to overhaul the super-hot money list leader, Martin Kaymer – despite the $7.5-million purse on offer in Dubai.

“The kids will be coming out of school on December 14 so I won’t be playing the South African Open either this year. I then have to get myself to Hawaii in the first week of January for the opening event on the 2011 US Tour,” he added
