Ernie Els believes that Branden Grace has the game to become South Africa’s next major winner.

Grace set the pace heading into the final day of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, a performance that earned him great praise from his countryman.

“I remember winning the (2007) South African Open and he was top amateur,” Els said of Grace, who beat him in a play-off for the Volvo Champions title earlier in the year.

“He’s always been a quality player and he’s a world contender now.”

South Africa has a rich history in the game’s biggest tournaments, with Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel all winning major titles within the last ten years. Els feels that Grace could soon add his name to the list.

“He’s good enough to win an Open – he’s that good,” asserted this year’s British Open winner.
