Dunhill Links auction hotting up

With three days to go, an eBay auction offering a chance to play in this year’s Dunhill Links Championship is hotting up.
With just three days to go, an eBay auction offering a chance to play in this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews has already topped £9000.
The auction, in aid of the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, is expected to raise well over £10,000 after a last-minute rush for this unique opportunity.
“The winning bidder, says eBay, the auction organisers, “will play with the very best in golf in the prestigious invitation-only tournament, held over three of the world’s finest golf courses – the Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and the Kingsbarns Golf Links from October 7-10, in aid of the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation.
“The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation funds the restoration of historic monuments and buildings in the home of golf and its patrons include Sir Sean Connery, Colin Montgomerie, Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros, Arnold Palmer, Sam Torrance, Tony Jacklin and TV commentator Peter Alliss.
“With $5 million total prize money, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of the most celebrated tournaments in world golf.
“Previous amateur participants include Michael Douglas, Bill Murray, Boris Becker, Sir Bobby Charlton, Samuel L. Jackson, Johan Cruyff, Sir Ian Botham, Dennis Hopper, Hugh Grant, Sir Steve Redgrave and Tico Torres.”
The prize for the eBay auction winner also includes five nights’ accommodation in an official tournament hotel, airport transfers from Edinburgh, VIP transport between the three links courses and invitations to the championship’s exclusive social events for the winner and partner.
Last year’s auction for a similar prize raised £17,600.
