Dougherty’s woes continue

Once considered one of the brightest prospects on the European Tour, Nick Dougherty faces another season in the wilderness.
Once considered one of the brightest prospects on the European Tour, Nick Dougherty faces another season in the wilderness after failing to qualify to secure his Tour card for 2013.
Having turned professional in 2002, Dougherty was named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year after finishing 36th on the Order of Merit.
The years that followed have been hampered by illness and a loss of form in between claiming three Tour victories.
This erratic form culminated in a poor run that saw him lose his Tour card in 2011 after making only one cut in 32 events.
After spending 2012 on the Challenge Tour, the Englishman was hopeful of winning his card back but saw his hopes ended when he ended on 20-over-par at the final qualifying school being held at the PGA Catalunya in Spain.
As a result, the 30-year-old will once again face a season on the periphery.
