Donald to play with stand-in caddie

Luke Donald’s regular caddie will be on his honeymoon when the Children’s Miracle Network Classic tees off on Thursday.
Luke Donald’s regular caddie will be on his honeymoon when the Children’s Miracle Network Classic tees off on Thursday.
Donald has entered the event, the final one of the regular PGA Tour season, in a last-ditch effort to reclaim the top spot on the PGA Tour money list that he surrendered to Webb Simpson last week.
The two players are paired together for the first two rounds at Lake Buena Vista, Florida, as they prepare to face off for the end-of-season bragging rights.
But unfortunately for the Englishman, his regular caddie John McLaren has recently gotten married and is on his honeymoon this week, making him unavailable for the event.
With this tournament not originally on Donald’s schedule, McLaren can be forgiven for the scheduling conflict. Donald only entered at the very last minute.
McLaren’s caddying duties will now be taken over by Gareth Lord. who normally works with Thomas Bjorn.
Donald requires a top-two finish to surpass Simpson after the American moved into a $363,000 lead following his second place finish at last weekend’s McGladrey Classic.
