A victory in the United States this week will see England’s Luke Donald climb to the world number one spot.

Donald will be playing in The Heritage at Hilton Head in South Carolina this week, and a win will guarantee him the top spot in the rankings, even if fellow Englishman Lee Westwood should this week’s Indonesian Masters on the OneAsia Tour.

Westwood is currently ranked second behind Martin Kaymer, while Donald currently occupies the third spot, but after this week that could all change.

Kaymer has been No. 1 since the end of February when he took the spot away from Westwood after making the final of the WGC-Accenture World Match Play.

Kaymer, fresh off a middling performance in last week’s Maybank Malaysian Open, is sitting this week out, meaning he won’t be able to control what might happen with either if his two closest competitors.
