Don’t be tempted to cut across doglegs

Yes I know; the only reported hole-in-one in recent years on a par five hole was blasted over some trees lining a dogleg fairway somewhere in England, but don’ try to cut corners.

It’s simply not worth the risk. The vast majority of these shots end up in trouble.
Golf course designers put in doglegs with the intention of making you play around them. They distance them in such a way as to punish you if you try to cut across them.
So don’t be tricked into trying it unless you are absolutely sure of what you are up against – and know you can succeed.
Far better to play away from the corner so that your next shot won’t be impeded.
