England’s Brian Davis fired a second successive round of 65 to join Bryce Molder at the head of the Crowne Plaza Invitational field at Colonial on 16-under par.

Londoner Davis completed his second successive round without a dropped shot on Saturday, and seven further birdies ensured he would go out in the final group on Sunday.

American Molder held on to a share of his overnight lead with his round of 67, but his playing partner Jason Bohn dropped down into a tie for fourth after a round of 68.

Bohn bogeyed the 18th to card a round of two-under to move onto 14-under for the tournament, to place him alongside fellow Americans Jeff Overton and Ben Crane.

Zach Johnson made a huge move up the leaderboard with a blistering round of 64 catapulting him up into third place on his own on 15-under, just a shot off the pace.

KJ Choi came within one hole of an extraordinary third round in Texas before his day was ruined by a quadruple bogey at the 18th.

After seven birdies and an eagle, Choi was on target for an eight-under round of 62 before he hit trouble on the final hole.

His tee shot went left, he found the water with his third, then skidded past the green with his sixth, before eventually putting from eight yards to sign for a 66.
