Davies shares top spot

England veteran Laura Davies claimed a share of top spot at the Carta Si Ladies’ Italian Open in Milan today.
England veteran Laura Davies claimed a share of top spot at the Carta Si Ladies’ Italian Open with a second-round 65 in Milan today (Friday)
Davies signed for a seven-under-par total to move to nine under for the tournament alongside Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord.
Nicole Gergely of Austria and home favourite Diana Luna shot 65 and 66 respectively to close two shots back from the leaders, while Wales’ Becky Brewerton also shone,
shaving a stroke off her first-round 69 to go fifth on seven under par.
Davies, who hit six birdies, an eagle and a bogey, told www.ladieseuropeantour.com: “I’m pleased, especially on this course.
“It’s pretty tight and you’ve got to keep your ball in play so it’s good for the confidence to know I can play a course like that well.
“You just have to make sure you hit a lot of fairways and I hit 11 of 14 fairways today and 16 of 18 greens.
“That’s what you need to do. There were lots of birdies and not many mistakes.”
Day one leaders Caroline Afonso and Iben Tinning finished with a share of seventh and 10th after shooting respective rounds of 73 and 75.
