Cristie Kerr fired a seven-under-par 65 to hold a one-shot lead after the first round of the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Alabama.
The American carded three birdies in a row on the fifth, sixth and seventh and three more in her last four holes to sit atop the leaderboard at the RTJ Golf Trail.
Dorothy Delasin, Anna Nordqvist and Morgan Pressel were in a three-way tie for second.
Delasin, from the United States, would have led the field had she not finished her round with a double bogey six on the 18th, which dropped her from eight under to six under.
She had earlier hit four birdies in succession from the third to the sixth.
Sweden’s Nordqvist carded seven birdies and one bogey as did American Pressel.
Five more players were a shot further back on five under.
Giulia Sergas, Brittany Lincicome, Christina Kim and Vicky Hurst fired 67s, while Silvia Cavalleri was on five under through 17 when play was suspended because of darkness.
England’s Karen Stupples was in joint 38th place after a two-under 70, while Becky Morgan of Wales was also two under with one hole still to play.
