Chinese LPGA event cancelled

The LPGA has confirmed that a forthcoming tournament that was scheduled to take place in China has been cancelled.

The LPGA has confirmed that it has cancelled a forthcoming tournament that was scheduled to take place in China.

The Imperial Springs LPGA, originally slated to take place between Sept 29 – Oct 2 of this year, has now been taken off the schedule after the China Golf Association (CGA) officially notified the LPGA late Monday night that the event was off.

“Blindsided by the news, the LPGA has exhausted all possibilities to carry on with the event as scheduled but have been told that the tournament must be canceled,” the LPGA said in a press release Tuesday night.

“We are unable to share further details of the cancellation at this time. We view China as an important market for the LPGA and remain open to creating a world-class event with long-term success.”

The tournament was originally scheduled for August of this year, but, according to the LPGA release, was postponed “to allow the title sponsor and tournament organizers more time for proper permitting.”

A CGA official, when asked for comment, merely said that they had no information on the issue. He would only give his surname, Wei.
