The LPGA Tour heads for South America this week where Scotland’s Catriona Matthew is set to defend her title at the HSBC Brazil Cup in Rio de Janeiro.

Matthews, the reigning British Women’s Open Champion, could find some of her sternest opposition coming from the current US Women’s Open Champion Eun-Hee Ji of Korea

But also back this year in the 27-man field that will contest this 36-hole LPGA ‘exhibition’ for a total ‘unofficial’ purse of $700,00 at the Itanhanga Golf Club is last year’s runner up Kristy McPherson.

She is part of a strong American contingent that includes highly ranked Angela Stanford, last week’s beaten finalist in the Sybase Match Play Championship, and Brittany Lang.

South America is well represented with three players from Brazil, including LPGA stalwart Angela Park, and one each from Argentina, Chile, Columbia and Paraguay.

Park, who is of Korean descent, but grew up in Brazil, is a Brazilian national and now lives in California, is once again expected to draw the largest galleries after finishing third last year.

Matthew, Park, McPherson, Ji and Allison Fouch are the only players in the field who also played in this event last year.
