Casey delays Hazeltine decision

World No 3 Paul Casey will leave it until Monday before deciding whether to play in next week’s PGA Championship.
World number three Paul Casey will leave it until Monday before deciding whether to play in next week’s US PGA Championship.
Casey withdrew from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron after just six holes of his opening round on Thursday with a pulled intercostal, one of the muscles between his ribs.
A similar injury suffered at last month’s Scottish Open kept India’s Jeev Milkha Singh out of action for three weeks, and Casey initially said his injury would need two to four weeks’ treatment to heal properly.
Casey’s manager at IMG, Guy Kinnings, suggested the Ryder Cup star would continue to try to make his tee-time for next Thursday at Hazeltine National.
“Paul is going to have treatment on his injury over the weekend in Akron and will reassess his condition on Monday,” Kinnings said.
