Thai veteran Boonchu Ruangkit stormed into the lead at the Brunei Open after firing a 64 in his third round.

Thai veteran Boonchu Ruangkit stormed into the lead at the Brunei Open as the 53-year-old fired a seven-under-par 64 in his third round to edge one stroke ahead of Jay Bayron.
Boonchu reeled off three consecutive birdies from the second at the Empire Hotel and Country Club and added two more along with an eagle at the par-five 15th to move to 13-under.
“The week’s turning out to be a fantastic one for me,” said Boonchu.
“I’ve been playing well and it’s always nice to know that I can still play with these younger players on the Asian Tour and continue to take the lead.”
Byron, meanwhile, is hard on his heels on 12 under par following a 67 that featured an eagle, four birdied and two bogeys on a day where temperatures touched 33 degrees.
“I can’t really ask for more on an extremely hot day like this. My driving and putting have all been in top form and I’m hoping that this will continue into the final day tomorrow,” said the Filipino.
India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, Korean Ted Oh and Scott Bar from Australia are tied for third on 11-under following rounds of 64, 68 and 69 respectively.
Overnight co-leader Wisut Artjanawat is nine-under following a 72 while Gavin Flint, who also headed the field coming into the third round, slipped to seven-under after posting a disappointing three-over 74.
