This Justin Rose simple drill helps prevent under rotation in your golf swing

When it comes to improving your golf game, sometimes the best advice comes from the best players in the world.
Justin Rose, a former US Open champion and one of the most consistent ball strikers on the PGA Tour, has shared a simple yet highly effective drill to prevent one of the most common swing problems in golf – under rotation.
Under rotation of the upper body in the backswing can lead to inconsistent ball striking and a lack of power.
But Rose has a quick fix, and the best part is you don’t even need a club and can do the drill anywhere!
“It’s a common problem to be under-rotated with your upper body away from the golf ball. When taking my backswing, there’s some extension in my spine and it’s very important because it helps keep me centred and make a full turn,” explains Rose.
One of the key feelings Rose focuses on is maintaining a wide chest and a proper shoulder turn at the top of his backswing.
“At the end of my backswing, I feel like my chest is very wide and that my shoulders are feeling very short.
“Take your arms really wide and out of your chest, find the feeling of extension with the back shoulder beyond 90 degrees.”
The beauty of this drill is that it can be done virtually anywhere even in an elevator or at home.
By practising this extension and wide turn without a golf club, you’ll train your body to minimise under-rotation and develop a fuller, more flowing golf swing.
Small adjustments and focused practice can lead to big improvements on the course.
Rose’s knowledge emphasises the importance of body movement and positioning, reminding golfers to nail the fundamentals before making more technical changes when not quite ready.
So next time you’re waiting for the lift or standing around at home, make sure to implement this drill that is tried and tested by a Ryder Cup veteran.
