Madeira event reduced to 36 holes

No play was once again possible on Saturday morning at the Madeira Islands Open, forcing officials to reduce the event to 36 holes.

The European Tour’s 1,500th official event has struggled to get going as heavy fog on Thursday meant not a single ball was struck in anger while there were more delays on Friday.

With play once again not starting on schedule on Saturday, officials have reduced it to 36 holes and a Monday finish now a distinct possibility.

Scotland’s Scott Henry is the clubhouse leader after completing a five-under-par 67 on Friday, but he and the rest of the afternoon starters have already been informed they won’t be able to begin their second rounds on Saturday.
