Jimenez sets sights on Ryder Cup

He is only a few weeks away from turning 50, but Miguel Angel Jimenez still harbours hopes of playing in the Ryder Cup.
The Spaniard claimed a record-equalling fourth Hong Kong Open title and also broke his own record as the oldest winner on the European Tour as he was 49 years and 337 days on Sunday.
Jiminez appears to be getting better with age as 13 of his 20 Euro Tour victories have come after he turned 40, but don’t expect him to settle down once he turns 50 as he still has the Ryder Cup in mind.
“If I play the way I am playing this week I will be in the Ryder Cup team,” he said. “There is one more year to go and now I get this victory here it will help a lot.”
Jiminez has already represented Europe at four Ryder Cups, but his last appearance came at Celtic Manor in Wales back in 2010.
However, should he get the nod for Gleneagles in Scotland in September 2014 then he will beat Ted Ray’s – who was 50 years, two months and five days old when he competed at the inaugural contest in 1927 – record as the oldest player.
“You never know,” he said. “I would love to be part of the team again. It’s a target.”
