Wilson’s 2025 balls for the mid and high handicappers

Wilson have four balls in their golfing family and they have now released a 2025 version of the Triad and DUO Soft.
The Triad is a three-piece urethane ball while the DUO Soft is a two-piece surlyn ball.
Completing the line-up of a brand which probably remains underrated on the ball front are the premium four-piece Staff Model and Model X.
We take a look at the news balls for 2025 and what Wilson are promising.
The new Wilson Triad ball
When was the previous version of the Triad?
The previous iteration came out in 2023 and it is seen a very solid ball that is aimed at the ‘competitive golfer striving to break 80’ which is a pretty good target market. It boasts high speed and low spin with the driver as well as excellent spin around the greens due to the urethane cover as well as an excellent roll thanks to its uniform density throughout the three layers.
What is new about the Triad?
The Triad received plenty of acclaim two years ago and the new version claims to be the ‘world’s most balanced golf ball’. This is done through a patented Tri-Balanced Construction. The updated design ensures uniform density across all three layers, delivering a perfect centre of gravity for the purest roll.
This has an 80 compression and features a high moment of inertia which is designed to maximise ball speeds while reducing driver spin. Conversely the thin urethane cover increases clubface interaction for feel and spin with the irons. The 2025 version has a lower compression and a redesign of the core and mantle composition which is the layer surrounding the core.
What do Wilson say?
“The soft three-piece urethane cover provides performance benefits to help golfers find more fairways, attack more pins, and sink more putts. The re-designed Tri-Balanced Construction makes it more consistent than its predecessor,” said Frank Simonutti, Global Director of Golf Ball Innovation at Wilson Golf.
“During testing the new Triad had the longest driver distance and highest iron spin of competitive three-piece urethane balls. This was matched by having the highest average spin rate on 7-iron, 9-iron and 56˚ wedge shots. Triad is the only perfectly balanced golf ball on the market with no ‘heavy’ spots, which can have a negative effect on putting and prevent a true roll.”
What about the price?
The new Wilson Triad ball is available in white and yellow at £40/€45 (Ireland) per dozen.
The new DUO Soft ball
When was the previous version of the DUO Soft?
Again the previous DUO Soft came out in 2023 which fits in with the usual two-year cycle of golf balls. This was touted as the world’s softest ball with a compression of 40. A new core was designed to see the ball fly further and launch higher for those players with slower swing speeds.
What is new about the DUO Soft?
The compression has come down to just 37 which sees it remain as the world’s softest ball. The general characteristics of a soft ball are that they are best for slower swing speeds, have a higher degree of spin, travels further in the air and launches higher.
This ball features a two-piece surlyn construction and the high-energy core maximises impressive distance off the tee. The soft core and stiff cover combine to also minimise spin rate for lower sidespin and straighter flight so ideal for a higher handicapper.
To add to their appeal these are available in five vibrant colours: red, orange, green, yellow and pink.
What do Wilson say?
“The new DUO Soft provides golfers with premium performance at an incredible price. During testing the innovative high-energy core showed that the new DUO Soft carried longer than other competitive two-piece balls, yet continues to provide the softest feel of any golf ball, making it great for players looking for straighter flight and help finding the fairway,” said Simonutti.
What about the price?
The DUO Soft balls cost £27/€30 (Ireland) per dozen.
