What’s new in Callaway staffer Xander Schauffele’s bag?
Callaway staffer Xander Schauffele hasn’t made too many changes to his bag for the start of the 2024 season – but there have been one or two exciting new additions.
Those new additions come from the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond family.
Schauffele turned to the brand-new Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond (10.5 degrees) as his choice from the tee for the Sony Open in Hawaii.
And Callaway PGA TOUR Rep and player fitter Kellen Watson claimed Schauffele was delighted with the new club head.
“At the end of November, I went down to The Grove and fit [Xander Schauffele], and his spin rates were probably 30 per cent tighter, shot-to-shot-to-shot, compared to the Paradym,” Watson told GolfWRX.com in Hawaii.
“And the Paradym wasn’t bad, either. Forgiveness has a different meaning for these guys compared to consumers, right? When PGA TOUR players miss the centre of the face – and it’s not very often – they miss by a millimetre or two. So, for them, it’s more about tightening the disparity in spin rate from shot to shot. These faces are faster everywhere, but we want the spin rates to be within a 200-300 rpm window, and I think that’s what we’re seeing based on feedback and working with each player.”
Schauffele’s bag also included the High Launch variant of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 3-wood. The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 3-wood is the only one of the fairway woods that features adjustable loft settings with the 5-wood fixed at 18 degrees and the 7-wood at 20.
To bridge the gap between his 3-wood and his irons, he uses a Callaway Apex UW hybrid, and it is unclear if Schauffele has trialled any of the AI Smoke hybrids.
