What golf grips do the world’s best players use?

Golf Pride are the clear market leaders when it comes to golf grips.

They have more major wins than any other brand and more than 80 per cent of Tour pros use their grips and, interestingly, not one of them is paid to do so which is why we don’t hear too much about them.

But the grip is obviously crucial. It is our only point of contact with the club and we all have different hand shapes as well as preference over what we want to feel. There is no excuse these days for our hands to start slipping or not to like what we feel.

Golf Pride have so many options when it comes to choosing a grip for your irons and woods (and putters) and they also have a handy grip selector option on their website to help you find the right one for you.

Scottie Scheffler – Golf Pride Tour Velvet

This is an absolute banker for pretty much every golfer and is ideal for those players who love to hit hundreds of balls, like Scheffler. This sits in the middle of the spectrum in terms of firmness. Very durable and great in the wet.

What Golf Pride say: “The most popular grip in golf today combines an exclusive, state-of-the-art rubber-blend compound, non-slip surface pattern for maximum playability, comfort, and confidence. The Tour Velvet is the standard upon which many club manufacturers base their grip designs.”

Rory McIlroy, Xander Schaffele, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland – Golf Pride MCC

This has been a staple part of McIlroy’s set-up ever since most of us can remember.
The MCC (New Decade MultiCompound) blends the performance of rubber and cord so it will play in any weather and there are also bundles of colour options available.

With Schauffele his grips become progressively larger in his bottom right hand, starting with one four-inch tape, followed by a six-inch wrap so it tapers as he builds up the right hand to slow down the club’s rotation.

What Golf Pride say: “The MCC is an innovative hybrid grip that fuses the positive performance of rubber and cord. The MCC boasts the Golf Pride exclusive Brushed Cotton Cord in the upper hand area for firm all-weather control, and a performance rubber material in the lower hand for ultimate feel and responsiveness.”

Collin Morikawa – Golf Pride Z Cord

Morikawa clearly enjoys this grip that isn’t for everyone but if you have a light touch then it might be for you. This is the firmest grip that Golf Pride offer and it provides so much feedback after every shot. Maybe not one for the higher handicapper as they won’t need that feel but, if you do enjoy feel and feedback then this might be the one.

What Golf Pride say: “The ZGRIP is the firmest cord grip available from Golf Pride. Combining two layers of texturing for feedback and control, the ZGRIP features a deep “Z”-shaped texture pattern that winds vertically around the grip for control, while a heavy cord texture throughout provides moisture management. This design pattern is enhanced with a white end cap and distinctive white body paint fill.”

Ludvig Aberg- Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360

Another all rubber offering but this is ideal for those who like to play around with the adjustability of their drivers, fairways and hybrids as, whatever set-up you have, you won’t be able to tell anything is different about the grip.

What Golf Pride say: “The Tour Velvet 360 is now available in a new, exclusive white finish highlighting the patented Tour-preferred plus signs. It features the popular look and feel of the Tour Velvet non-slip surface pattern in a 360-degree design. This grip features double-dash rings on both ends that allow for a consistent appearance regardless of shaft orientation or adjustments.”
