TaylorMade have announced that their exciting new Burner 09 irons will be available in the shops beginning March 20, 2009.
“Our goal with these clubs” the company said this week, “was to create easy-to-launch irons that deliver meaningful distance and we did that by promoting a high, straight, long-carrying, soft-landing ball flight.”
TaylorMade designers, the company revealed, had worked in separate groups on the long irons, the middle irons and short irons, which had finally come out with the following characteristics:
Club Faces:
They have thinner clubfaces than previous models, the thinnest being in the long irons (3-5), the not quite so thin in the middle irons (6-8), with the short irons being a little thicker than both.
Inverted Cone Technology:
This technology features in all (the long, middle and short) irons.
Larger clubhead sizes:
Larger clubheads feature in the long and mid-irons, but not in the short irons.
Wider soles:
The set has wider soles on all the clubs, but they are not quite as wide on the middle irons as they are on the long irons, nor are the short irons as wide in the sole as in the middle irons..
Thicker topline:
All the clubs have thicker toplines, but again, the long irons having the thickest.
Offset clubs:
The long irons only are offset
Ultra light shafts and Grips:
Ultra light shafts and grips are employed throughout the Burner 09 irons set with the shaft length also being increased in the long and middle irons to help promote faster swing speeds.
MOI
TaylorMade says the MOI of these irons are greater than any other set they have put on the market and add that the center of gravity location is progressive throughout the set.
On its cosmetics, the company describes their irons as being a “a futuristic blend of curves, angles and lines” completed with “a dark, almost sinister finish.”
The new, TaylorMade Burner 09 iron sets range from 4-irons through to attack wedge, with 3-irons, sand wedges and lob wedges being available as separate purchases.
A set of the clubs with steel shafts will have an MSRP of $840 and $1,080 for clubs with graphite shafts.
