POD JOINS FOOTJOY STABLE

Padraig Harrington has joined FootJoy’s professional golfers stable and from this season will wear their SYNR-G shoe just launched.
FootJoy has announced that Irish star Padraig Harrington has joined their professional golfers stable and will wear their new SYNR-G shoe just launched on January 1.
Coming after an historic 2008 season during which he captured two Major championships and was named player of the year on both the US PGA and European Tours, it is fitting, perhaps that his new multi-season footwear contract will see him wearing a golfing brand also regarded as occupying the No 1 slot in its field.
The new SYNR-G shoe he will be teeing off in this year is “a perfect combination of comfort and stability”, says FootJoy,”that has been especially engineered for players like Harrington who possess higher swing speeds and demand additional support and motion control in their golf shoes.
“FootJoy is a brand that just about every golfer is brought up wearing – and I’m no different,” said Harrington, who will feature in new FootJoy television advertisements as well as in print and online ad campaigns throughout the year.
“The belief,” he added, “and belief is something you’ve got to have, is that you are playing the very best shoes you can get, and that gives you an edge over the field.
“These new FootJoy shoes are fantastic. They support the foot well throughout the golf swing, which is so important to hitting solid, powerful shots.”
Harrington’s climb up the World Rankings list to his present position at No 4 rocketed after he captured the Volvo Order of Merit crown as the top money winner in Europe in 2006 and, going on from there, winning first, the 2007 Irish Open, and then, just two weeks later, the big one on his target list, the Open Championship at Carnoustie.
The Dublin golfing icon took his career to an even higher level last year when he won each of the season’s final two majors, first successfully defending his Open crown at Royal Birkdale in July and then claiming the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club just three weeks later.
His three Majors, five US PGA Tour victories and eight European Tour titles have helped take his total number of wins to 16.
Harrington has also been selected to represent Europe in five Ryder Cup teams, finishing on the winning side three times.
Rob Kelley, Director of Brand Marketing for FootJoy, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Padraig Harrington to Team FJ.
“Padraig not only brings an unparalleled record of worldwide success but also an intimate knowledge of the research and technology behind footwear development.”
