Wilson have disclosed that Padraig Harrington is currently testing their new Wilson Staff Dd6+ driver with the intention of adding it his bag in early 2007.
This at about the same time as the American sporting goods manufacturers plan to launch their latest driver to the British public.
Harrington had a quiet Ryder Cup, but since then his game has been on fire and victories at the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland and at the HSBC Champions tournaments in China where he held of Tiger Woods have earned him his first European Order of Merit title as well.
Wilson are confident their new driver will make him an even more formidable competitor next year.
That’s because the new Dd6+ driver, they say is helps golfers hit the ball longer and more accurately than any other driver they have ever produced.
It has been designed to deliver a higher Moment of Inertia (MOI) and greater clubhead speed and features a deeper body, a lower profile and a longer face than its companion Wilson Dd6 driver.
“With a stretched profile and longer face it improves forgiveness and increases the launch angle,” says Doug Wright, European business director for Wilson Golf.
“And this should help golfers raise their game with greater distance and more accuracy.”
By how much?
Wilson believe that on average the new design should help increase clubhead speed by at least two miles per hour, which, combined with the higher trajectory off the tee, could in turn add some 6 yards to your tee shots.
And the recommended retail selling price? $199.
