Odyssey’s new chipper could be the ultimate short game rescue club

Is the Odyssey Chipper the answer to your chipping struggles?
For all the technical talk on how to play your shots around the greens, the simple truth is that many of us are still more overcome by nerves than a poor technique. Often, it’s down to both.
Chippers have been around for years, the Bronty remains an iconic club, but in the past decade, we’ve seen the big manufacturers come to the party. Odyssey will release their new Chipper on July 27, and they claim that this is their best offering yet.
Odyssey have tried more than most brands when it comes to helping those of us afflicted with some short-game concerns, and the 2025 product has been refined into more of a hybrid shape. The thinking is that players are happy to use their hybrids around the greens due to the ease with which they easily elevate the ball and get the ball running.
And it sets up like a puttter. The typical lie angle of a putter is around 70˚; this Chipper is 66˚, so you will be standing taller to the ball and using more of a pendulum-like stroke rather than a more rounded chipping technique.
Why the Odyssey Chipper could have the edge
Two stand-out features might make this a great purchase. Firstly, it has a polymer insert, like a putter. If you have used a Chipper, then, while getting the ball airborne is fairly straightforward, the judging of distance is less so. With a softer insert, this adds to the feeling of treating all chips like a long putt.
Secondly, it has a step sole design which reduces the amount of sole that makes contact with the ground and encourages a better interaction with the turf and therefore a better strike.
The final neat piece of engineering is that it has a longer grip, which adds to the club’s versatility, and three alignment lines on the back of the club add further to the putter sensation.
Loft wise there is 37˚ which is similar to what you might expect from your 8-iron so you likely won’t be able to use it for too much height but, by the looks of it, it could be a great addition to your bag if you are prone to making a mess of what looks like the simplest of chips.
The new Odyssey Chipper will be available in both a men’s and women’s version and will be priced at £149 and available for preorder.
