A look at the mix-and-match bag that won Davis Thompson the John Deere Classic
Davis Thompson shot a tournament record-setting 28-under 256 to claim a four-shot win at the 2024 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run on Sunday.
Thompson uses an intriguing mix of clubs and doesn’t mind mixing and matching clubs from different makers.
Thompson uses the PGA Tour favorite’s driver, the Titleist TSR3 with a Mitsubishi Diamana DF 70 TX shaft. The club is renowned for its precise speed and distance along with its exceptional feel and playability.
He makes use of a couple of fairway woods which are both Ping G430 Max model clubs. He uses a 3-wood lofted at 15 degrees and a 7-wood dialed in at 21 degrees.
Thompson uses a Ping i240 4-iron as his ‘hot’ long iron with its larger, softer elastomer insert in the compact head activating at impact for unprecedented feel, while a machined face and grooves help provide the impact consistency and distance precision required for scoring.
The rest of his iron range are made up of Titleist 620 MBs. The muscle back irons stay true to everything players have come to trust from this classic model, with distinct refinements that make them better than ever.
His wedge choice is split between Titleist Vokey Design SM10s and Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks.
On the green, he uses an Odyssey White Hot OG #7 putter.
Thompson hopes his maiden PGA Tour win is just the beginning.
“Yeah, I mean, obviously those are the goals,” he said. “But now that I’ve got my first win, I feel like the work is only beginning. The goal is to play this game for 20-plus years and have a great career.
“Yeah, as far as goals, honestly, just not really thinking about that right now. Just hopefully trying to get some sleep on (the Deere) charter flight to the Genesis Scottish Open.”
