There has been plenty of buzz about these new Cobra drivers since they were spotted on the range at the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open in October and Rickie Fowler was using one in December’s season-ending Grant Thornton Invitational.

What’s the buzz?

Cobra is calling the range its “fastest, most fittable metal woods to date” and there will be four models: DS-Adapt LS, DS-Adapt X, DS-Adapt Max-K, and DS-Adapt Max-D.

What makes it different?

Key to the range is the hosel technology, most obviously because if its adjustable qualities. Cobra brands it as the FutureFit33 Adjustable hosel system which allows for 33 unique loft and lie settings. Every one can be adjusted independently with the aim being guaranteeing a square face at address.

What do Cobra say?

“FutureFit33 is a true breakthrough in metalwood fitting,” VP of Product Architecture and Consumer Connections at Cobra Puma Golf, Jose Miraflor says. “Never before has any hosel system provided 33 unique loft and lie settings that can be adjusted so quickly and easily. 33 settings is more than four times our previous hosel system and more than double our nearest competitor.”

What is progressive aero shaping?

In the DS-Adapt LS this creates a notable high form crown height, a raised rear aft, and heel aero shaping, but with a more compact profile.

For the 460cc DS-Adapt X, there is a distinct balance across the driver head providing a traditional profile that offers forgiveness and speed.

The DS-Adapt Max-K is especially forgiving being in the 10K MOI space. It’s 460cc profile is the biggest in the range.

The DS-Adapt Max-D is draw-biased with a low, heel-biased centre of gravity.

What’s adaptive weighting?

Cobra’s adaptive weighting system uses the company’s updated PWR-Bridge weight which allows for a different design in each model and loft.

What does Cobra say about this?

“In the LS, the 9-degree clubhead features a redesigned, slightly curved PWR-BRIDGE weight positioned low and as forward as possible for low spin and maximum ball speed. The 10.5-degree LS features no PWR-BRIDGE and repositions the discretionary weight to move the CG slightly back for a bit more spin and higher launch, allowing for a more playable version of the low-spinning LS model.

“Similarly, the DS-ADAPT X 9-degree clubhead features a forward PWR-BRIDGE weight for reduced spin and speed, while the 10.5-degree features no PWR-BRIDGE, with discretionary weight moved to the back for added launch and forgiveness.

“The DS-ADAPT MAX-K features all discretionary weight in the back of the clubhead, maximizing forgiveness and consistency.

“The MAX-D models are designed with all discretionary weight in the heel for increased slice correction and exceptional stability.”

And what about external weights?

Ah yes, the final component. The DS-Adapt LS and DS-Adapt X includes moveable external weights.

The LS has three weight ports (two front, one back) with two 3-gram weights and one 10-gram weight.

The X has one back and one front weight.

Max-K has a 10-gram fixed weight in the back for maximum MOI.

Max-D has a 10-gram fixed weight in the heel for draw bias.

Finally?

Cobra also includes a lightweight carbon crown, lightweight titanium frame and a larger forged face insert with H.O.T. Face Technology.

Big question – when are they released?

The DS-ADAPT range is available for pre-order on December 19th. They will be available in USA stores from January 10th and in UK/Europe from January 17th.
