Orizonte duo on target for global golf honour

Lisbon Golf’s reputation for offering golfers access to some of Portugal’s finest courses at a great-value price has received a ringing new endorsement after two of its layouts were shortlisted for a top accolade at this year’s World Golf Awards.
Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club and Ribagolfe I – two of the top venues in the portfolio of Portugal’s largest management company – are both leading contenders to be named as ‘Portugal’s Best Golf Course’ when the 2019 winners are unveiled in Abu Dhabi at the end of October.
The Rocky Roquemore-designed 18-hole championship course at Quinta do Peru is regularly rated among Europe’s top 100 layouts while Ribagolfe I is regarded among the finest in the Lisbon region and, as well as hosting European Tour Qualifying, was once described as the ‘Valderrama of Portugal’.
Launched in 2014, the World Golf Awards have quickly risen to be regarded as one of the most prestigious awards programmes in the golf tourism industry.
Orizonte commercial director, José Maria Cazal-Ribeiro, said: “It’s a great thrill to have two of our courses nominated for this leading award.
“With a collection of outstanding golf courses combined with an extensive array of other attractions, we have everything needed for a first-class golfing break, and recognition of this nature can only help to increase awareness of how good the golf is around Lisbon.”
Orizonte – Lisbon Golf provides golfers with the opportunity to play six of the leading courses in close proximity to Portugal’s capital in the beautiful Costa Azul region, together with exceptional value for money on a wide range of accommodation options.
As well as Quinta do Peru and the two layouts at Ribagolfe, players can also enjoy the two courses at Aroeira, twice the venue for the Portuguese Open and recently included in a list of Continental Europe’s Top 100 Golf Resorts.
And Orizonte is offering outstanding value between now and May 31 on a combination of three and four-night stay-and-play breaks, with four nights’ hotel, bed-and-breakfast and three rounds of golf bookable from only €334 per person (approx £295).
Voting for the 6th World Golf Awards is open until September 15. For more details about the event and to vote for La Manga Club, go to http://worldgolfawards.com/nominees/2019
