Golf365’s gallery guide to Oulton Hall golf course, hotel and spa

Golf365’s Simon Wilkes spent a night and two days at Oulton Hall in Leeds – and gives the lowdown on the course and hotel facilities.
Oulton Hall, part of the QHotels Group, is located around five miles from Leeds city centre, 15 miles from Leeds/Bradford International Airport – and just a five-minute drive from the M62, so is easily accessible no matter where you are coming from in the UK and beyond.
You can book a one-night break, with two rounds of golf, an evening dinner and buffet breakfast – plus use of the pool/sauna/steam room from just £89 pp, and here’s why you should – and what to do.
Get your eye in
First things first, after driving up the sweeping entrance to Oulton Hall, head to the clubhouse car park, and get on the impressive golf range, which is open until 8pm.
Time to tee off
With your swing in fine working order, it’s time for the main event, taking on holes 1-18.
Guiding light
Your course guide is your new best friend…listen to what it tells you – ignore your mates.
Do not enter sand, man
Metallica know their shizzle when it comes to music – but not golf…stay away from the bunkers if you can.
Fair point
There are some cracking approach shots if you can find the fairways – many of which are fairly forgiving.
18 reasons to get the drinks in
The sight of The Claret Jug bar in the clubhouse is a welcome one at the 18th green.
Room with a view
But the view from the bar is a better one, so get a drink, take a seat and watch fellow players bring it home.
Time to put your feet up
With 152 bedrooms, there’s plenty of choice – with the VIQ double room worth enquiring about.
Come dine with them
Check out the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and spa, then it’s evening dinner in The Calverley Grill restaurant, where manager Chris Lavery and his staff welcome you with a warm Yorkshire smile.
Time to shine on nine
After a good night’s kip and a filling buffet breakfast, take on holes 19-27, which demand accuracy and concentration due to some unforgiving rough stuff and water hazards.
Finish on a high
The 27th offers a real chance to end your round – and stay – on a high. Just 171 yards off the white tee, it demands an attacking shot at the green.
