On first glance Stricker seems like a classic candidate for USPGA Championship success. Until very recently he has been relatively unknown outside the PGA Tour, but he is strong from tee to green and he is capable of some hot putting streaks. And as if to prove that he has come very close to winning - in 1998 he led the event with 18 holes to play before finishing second behind Vijay Singh at Sahalee. He was also seventh at Medinah in 2006, but curiously he has never once finished inside the top 20 in his other 10 starts in the event. This year he has continued his fine form of the last few years, reaching a career high of second in the world rankings and winning twice, most recently when successfully defending the John Deere Classic with rounds of 60, 66, 62 and 70. Not a player to be overlooked because he is gritty, drives well and few can match his wedge play. And, what could prove the X-factor, he will also receive huge support this week as the course is in his home State of Wisconsin.
